The addition of the 2004 Aprilia 'RSV R FACTORY' to Toms-Toys provides a two wheeled version of extreme performance that was once dominated by four-wheel vehicles. When asked by friends what is an Aprilia? I simply say it's one of the finest expressions of World Class Superbikes ever created by the Italian motorcycle company based in Noale (near Venice). The Aprilia company is a relative newcomer, starting in the business as a bicycle manufacturer and branching out into small two-stroke motor bikes (mopeds) in the late 1960's and early 1970's. No, Aprilia doesn't have a long heritage to draw upon. Yet it does have a very progressive and successful approach to making a very unique kind of transportation. High performance and racing make Aprilia known worldwide. Now this 21st Century icon has created one of the most sophisticated Superbikes...the 1000 cc. RSV V-twin R with optional Factory racing equipment. While speed is the obvious byproduct, it is the handling that sets the Aprilia apart from the multitude of current production cycles. Lamborghini and Aprilia are now stablemates, so-to-speak, that blend the best action-ride on their Pirelli tires and OZ rims. Both the Countach (1987) and the RSV R Factory (2004) provide the thrills and excitement of Italian styling and high tech engineering for their respective decades, though nearly twenty years difference separates the two. This black "NeroBiablo" Aprilia is their most exclusive in terms of design and components. Essentially it uses the same components and materials as their Gran Prix championship machines, making it the lightest, fastest, and most exceptional machine on the track (and certainly on the street)! Engine-wise, its water cooled twin cylinder V-60° that uses 11.5 compression to produce 138 horsepower; while weighing in (dry) at an extemely light 408 pounds: which would translate to an amazing 3 lbs. per every one (1) horsepower, without liquids or a rider. More realistic perhaps is a wet weight of 460 lbs. with a difference of weighing in at 16 pounds less than the standard RSV R model. The Factory has light-weight wheels, fenders and offers significant braking and handling advantages. Aprilia's Mille, as it is referred to sometimes, has a 1000 cc (60 cu. inch) dry sump, two cylinder engine; with a sophisticated Siemens VDO engine control unit that monitors the 57 mm fuel injection system. Combined with the new aluminum and silicon alloy frame, Ohlin front/rear suspension, Brembo radial disc brakes, and forged aluminum wheels all help provide a unique package that fits nicely between the 4-4-2, Firebird, and Countach.
