1969 Pontiac Firebird

The 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible is the last of the first generation of F-bodied Pontiacs. It is generally considered similar to the 1967 and 1968 models. In reality it is a bit larger with upgrades to body, which I believe make it more GTO-like than either of the earlier models; especially with the split grill and color matching bumper framing it. I appreciate this comparison because, to me, they are nearly the same, visually. However, I could not keep it stock original.

There are just too many great high performance upgrades to leave it alone; in its primitive form:

  • It has been in the family since the beginning; initially belonging to my sister.
  • As a 350 HO (High Output) it was essentially the Poncho Ram Air engine, minus 50 cubic inches, at 325 horsepower. (Ironically, the cylinder heads were designed for the 1969 350 HO and ended up on not only the 350 HO but their 400 cubic inch Ram Air, Firebird).
  • With its large intake valves and high compression, the 350 HO was greatly underrated; and overlooked by a great many.
  • Rock & Roll Engineering can build old Pontiac 350 blacks to produce over 670 horsepower. An incredible accomplishment and engine!

“Crazy Horses” has a wild combination of many other unique features, which were designed for fun lovin' expeditions with handling and speed in a blend of American Pony Car Muscle and European Flair.

  • Old Chief Pontiac would have been proud of this tribal brave with its color changing paint and matching HRE three-piece 17 inch rims.
  • The Chief's image is tailored into the custom tapestries (carpet mats) and rear interior; which replaces the rear seating area: done by the creative automotive artist, Keith Collins to match the exotic color scheme of the exterior finish.
  • In keep with the high performance theme, the Planer Audio, 1600 watts amplification provides extended gratification for the ears.
  • The remote receiver is designed into the custom dash panel, which houses five VDO gauges and lighted rocker switches.
  • Then, there's the big red starter button to the left of the Ididit tilt steering column, to get things going right.
  • The entire driveline has been beefed from the bell housing back, including Super T-10 trany, Moser 3.5” (alum.) driveshaft, Moser 9-inch (alum. case), Daytona Pinion Support with Pro-Posi 3.70 and narrowed axles.

Crazy Horses is meant to be seen and enjoyed. Hope you like it.
